Purpose

This revised Notice replaces NOT-AI-04-035 titled, "NIAID Primary Caregiver Technical Assistance Supplements". The purpose of this Notice is to acknowledge that the pilot phase of this program has passed and to encourage submission of applications for the NIAID Primary Caregiver
Technical Assistance Supplements (PCTAS). Potential applicants can continue to submit eligible applications.

NIAID recognizes that postdoctoral scientists with young children or ailing parents are sometimes unable to focus completely on their research activities because of primary caregiver responsibilities. As a result productivity can be seriously compromised during this critical period of an early stage or junior scientist’s career. Thus, NIAID has created the PCTAS program to provide technical support to postdocs who have primary caregiver responsibilities.

Principal Investigators with NIAID research grants may apply for technical support for a postdoc for a period of 1-2 years. For details, please refer to this website:
