Notice Number: NOT-AI-13-015
Key Dates
Release Date: November 30, 2012
Issued by
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
Purpose
The purpose of this Notice is to provide clarity regarding two components of RFA-AI-12-045 "Tuberculosis Research Units (U19)", which was posted in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts on November 6, 2012.
Part I. Overview Information indicated that only one application per institution is allowed. NIAID has revised the announcement to reflect standard FOA practices, which is to allow applicant organizations to submit more than one application, provided that each application is scientifically distinct. Furthermore, NIH will not accept any application in response to this FOA that is essentially the same as one currently pending initial peer review unless the applicant withdraws the pending application.
Part 2. Full Text of Announcement, Section II. Award Information states that “Applicants may propose budgets of up to $3.25 million total costs (direct and indirect combined) in FY 2014." This is correct and remains unchanged.
Part 2. Full Text Announcement, Section IV. Application and Submission Instructions includes a sample direct cost budget for all proposed years of support; it is an example only and is not reflective of the allowable costs or budget structure for this FOA. However, as presented, the sample direct cost budget implies that there will be a progressive escalation of costs in out years. Please be advised that NIH policy no longer allows escalation in direct cost categories, so any increases to direct costs for subsequent years (year 2 -7 of the award) will have to be justified and detailed in the application.
