Change in Application Submission Requirement

On August 23, 2006 in Notice NOT-OD-06-096, NIH announced that, effective October 1, 2006, all competing grant applications from foreign (non-U.S.) institutions must include only detailed (non-modular) budgets. See http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-096.html.

Because the application submission date for applications in response to RFA-AI-06-041 is November 27, 2006 and because this competition is open to foreign (non-U.S.) institutions only, all applications must follow the PHS 398 instructions (http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html) for preparing detailed budgets.

The modular budget instructions in RFA-AI-06-041 are not to be followed.

The annual and total budget limits remain as stated in the RFA.  A project period of up to four years and a budget for annual direct costs of up to $75,000 per year may be requested (i.e., a maximum of $300,000 over four years). Indirect cost for foreign grantees are limited to 8%. F&A costs requested by consortium participants are not included in the direct cost limitation.
