The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is amending RFA-AI-04-047 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/index.html) to clarify that:

  1. Infections that are responsive to this RFA include Trichomonas vaginalis and bacterial vaginosis;
  2. A microbicide with a cervical barrier would be responsive as long as it satisfies the stated requirement that the contraceptive product target prevention of more than one infection; and
  3. This RFA will not support clinical trials.
