DESCRIPTION

The Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases of the National 
Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks to develop a 
vaccine to protect the general United States population against plague. This 
RFP is intended to target vaccine candidate(s) that can be produced at a 
scale to support Phase I clinical trials with a manufacturing process 
amenable to subsequent scale-up and continued development.  Studies proposed 
in response to this RFP will be compatible with a licensure path and 
consistent with pilot-scale manufacturing and contract timelines.  The 
Government contemplates awarding one or more contract(s) for accomplishing 
the tasks outlined in the Work Statement.  It is anticipated that these 
contracts will have two to three year performance periods. RFP-NIH-NIAID-
DMID-04-17 will be available electronically on or about August 1, 2003, and 
may be accessed through the NIAID Contract Management Branch (CMB) Home Page 
by using the following electronic address and instructions:

Responses to this RFP will be due on approximately December 1, 2003.  Any 
responsible offeror may submit a proposal for consideration by the 
Government. This advertisement does not commit the Government to award a 
contract.  No collect calls will be accepted.  No facsimile transmissions 
will be accepted.
