DESCRIPTION

The Virology Branch of DMID, NIAID intends to re-compete and renew the 
current In Vitro Screening Program. The Program supports screening systems 
for the assessment of the efficacy of potential therapeutic and/or prevention 
approaches for important human viral infections. There are seven principal 
viral categories covered under this RFP: (1) herpesviruses, (2) respiratory 
viruses, (3) hepatitis B virus, (4) hepatitis C virus, (5) human 
papillomaviruses, (6) orthopoxviruses, and (7) biodefense agents (or their 
surrogates) that cause viral hemorrhagic fever and/or encephalitis (for 
biodefense-related viruses, see http://www.bt.cdc.gov/Agent/Agentlist.asp). 
Screening systems for other viral infections, except systems for retrovirus 
infections, are also encouraged. 

It is anticipated that between three and eight (3-8) cost reimbursement, 
completion type contracts will be awarded for a period of seven (7) years, 
beginning approximately September 30, 2003.

RFP-NIH-NIAID-DMID-03-06 will be available electronically on or about 
September 23, 2002 and may be accessed through the NIAID Contract Management 
Branch (CMB) Home Page at  http://www.niaid.nih.gov/cgi-shl/cmb/rfps.cfm and 
will be posted on FedBizOpps at http://www.fedbizopps.gov/.  Please note that 
the RFP has been revised to include only the Work Statement, Deliverable and 
Reporting Requirements, Special Requirements, Technical Evaluation Criteria, and 
the Specific RFP Instructions and Provisions. All information required for the 
submission of an offer will be contained in the electronic RFP package. 
Responses to this RFP will be due on January 15, 2003.  Any responsible 
offeror may submit a proposal for consideration by the Government. This 
advertisement does not commit the Government to award a contract.  No collect 
calls will be accepted.  No facsimile transmissions will be accepted.
