National Institute on Aging (NIA)
The National Institute on Aging intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for research in the field of osteoimmunology, which concerns the bidirectional interactions between bone and the immune system. Where appropriate, planning of collaborations is encouraged between investigators whose research emphasis is bone biology with those whose emphasis is immunology.
This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.
The FOA is expected to be published around November 15, 2020 with an expected application due date around June 1, 2021.
This FOA will utilize the R01 activity code. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.
The goal of the upcoming initiative is to support research investigating age-related changes in immunology and bone cell interactions. Among the areas of research encouraged in this initiative are immunology research examining the mechanisms that underlie the effects on osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, as well as research designed to improve the translation of existing knowledge of strategies for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis
