Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform potential applicants that the National Institute on Aging (NIA) is participating, effective immediately, in PAS-16-033 "Stimulating Hematology Investigation: New Endeavors (SHINE) (R01)". NIA is interested in funding research studies on the "Effects of Aging on Hematopoiesis" pertaining to the systemic, microenvironmental, and cellular factors that contribute to dysregulation, expansion or contraction of the lymphoid and myeloid hematopoietic cell lineages with age.

The following sections of PAS-16-033 have been updated to reflect the participation of NIA in this Funding Opportunity Announcement.

Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards
NIDDK intends to fund two to four awards, totaling approximately $425,000, for Fiscal Year 2016 in addition to those funded within NIDDK regular funding policies. The number of awards and anticipated funds available will be similar in Fiscal Years 2017 and in 2018.

NHLBI intends to commit $2,000,000 in FY 2018 to fund two to five awards. Future year amounts will depend on annual appropriations.
