Purpose

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications from current awardees and new applicants to continue the previously funded Collaborative Initiative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CIFASD). The CIFASD is a multidisciplinary consortium of clinical, basic, and translational research projects established to address the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), the diagnosis of the full range of birth defects associated with prenatal alcohol exposure, and ameliorative interventions for affected individuals.

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.

The FOA is expected to be published in the summer of 2016 with an expected application due date in late 2016.

This FOA will utilize the U24 activity code (Research Resource). Details of the planned FOA are provided below.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages investigators with expertise in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders research to begin to consider responding to this new FOA. Among the research resources encouraged in this initiative are consortium administration, informatics, clinical recognition, education and outreach.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
