Notice of Change in NIAAA Policy on K Award Support

The purpose of this Notice is to inform the scientific community that NIAAA has instituted a new policy for salary support of K awards. Beginning in FY 2011 with awards made for new and renewal applications the following conditions of salary support will be implemented.
K99/R00: Salary support in the mentored phase (K99) will be provided up to $90,000 plus fringe benefits per year.
K22: Salary support will be provided up to $90,000 plus fringe benefits per year.
K01, K02, K07, K08, K23, and K25: Salary support will be provided up to $90,000 plus fringe benefits per year.
K18: Salary support will be provided up to the maximum legislative cap plus fringe benefits for a minimum of 50% effort.
K24: Salary support will be provided up to the maximum legislative cap plus fringe benefits for 25 to 50% effort.
K05: Salary support will be provided up to $140,000 plus fringe benefits per year.
The salary requested for the candidate must be consistent with both the established salary structure for full-time staff appointments and with salaries actually provided by the institution from its own funds to other staff members of equivalent qualifications, rank, and responsibilities in the applicable department.
Existing awards will be maintained at the current level of salary support. Renewal applications awarded in FY2011 and beyond will fall under the new salary cap guidelines.
Other conditions of the above awards remain as stipulated in the current funding opportunity announcements.
