Purpose
This Notice announces the participation of the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ALCOHOL ABUSE AND ALCOHOLISM (NIAAA) in PA-09-111 entitled Developmental Psychopharmacology (R01) and PA-09-112 entitled Developmental Psychopharmacology (R21).
NIAAA Statement of Interest: The NIAAA is interested in the possible impact of psychopharmacological medications on neurobehavioral development in children and adolescents diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) or a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Responsive studies may include research on the mechanisms of drug action during developmental change and studies on the effects of psychopharmacological medications on cognitive and behavioral development, neural development, and physical growth. Studies are also encouraged that investigate if these medications may confer a protective factor or vulnerability for abuse especially during adolescence or may contribute to addiction later in life as result of treatment within the developmental period.
