NIH REGIONAL SEMINAR IN PROGRAM FUNDING AND GRANTS ADMINISTRATION

A regional seminar covering topics related to the National
Institutes of Health extramural program funding and grants
administration has been scheduled for Thursday and Friday,
July 15-16, 1999, in Madison, Wisconsin. The seminar,
hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is designed
to attract participants from the Midwestern region,
although interested individuals from other regions are
welcome to attend. Individuals from small and minority
educational institutions, for-profit research
organizations, hospitals, universities, and medical centers
are encouraged to attend. The two-day seminar will feature
both plenary and break-out sessions in order to provide
information of interest to academic researchers,
scientists, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers,
and both new and senior research administrators.
Plenary session topics include: Scientific Peer Review;
Modular Grant Applications; an Open Panel Session with
University Participants; and Electronic Research
Administration.
Break-out sessions will be held on the following topics:
Human Subjects; Animal Welfare; Compliance Issues; NIH
Fundamentals; Development of Institute Program Priorities
and Funding Plans; Conflict of Interest; Funding
Opportunities for New Investigators; an Open Q&A Session on
Modular Grant Applications; Intellectual Property; Clinical
Trials; Project Monitoring; NRSA; Research Administration
for Faculty; a Mock Study Section Review; and an Open
Session for Researchers.

Room Reservation should be made directly with the Madison
Concourse Hotel. A block of rooms has been reserved for
seminar participants at a rate of $99 per night, single
occupancy; $105 per night, double occupancy; $119 per
night, triple occupancy; $129 per night, Governor’s Club
single; or $199 Governor’s Club double. Participants should
reference the NIH Midwest Regional Seminar when you call.
Reservations must be made by June 16, 1999 in order to
receive the negotiated conference room rate.
Registration Fee: $150
The registration fee will cover continental breakfast and
lunch on Thursday and Friday, a reception on Thursday
evening, and all seminar materials. Checks or purchase
orders made out to the University of Wisconsin-Madison will
be accepted for payment.
