Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR)
Progress reports are required annually to document grantee accomplishments and compliance with terms of award. They describe scientific progress, identify significant changes, report on personnel, and describe plans for the subsequent budget period or year.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has mandated that federal agencies implement a federal-wide research performance progress report (RPPR) for submission of required annual or other interim performance reporting on research grant and cooperative agreement awards to standardize recipient reporting on federally-funded research projects.
Implementation of the RPPR
NIH began implementing the federal-wide Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) in the Fall of 2012. NIH requires use of the RPPR module to submit progress reports for Streamlined Non-competing Award Process (SNAP), fellowship, and multi-year funded awards. See NIH Guide Notices OD-13-035 and OD-14-026. The RPPR is currently available to all institutions for non-SNAP progress reports, including those for complex and training awards. See NIH Guide Notice OD-14-064. NIH will require all grantee institutions to use the RPPR for non-SNAP progress reports submitted on or after October 17, 2014. See NIH Guide Notice OD-14-092.
Note also, that NIH continues development of the RPPR for final progress reports and for administrative extensions (Type 4s; e.g., SBIR/STTR Fast-Track Phase II application). NIH will update the community as progress is made.

Grantee Access to the RPPR
Grantees may access a list of progress reports that are due using the Status page in eRA Commons, and selecting the Tab "List of Applications/Grants." The far right column on the resulting table entitled Action will include an RPPR link if a progress report is due for a SNAP or Fellowship award. Select the RPPR link.
SNAP RPPRs are due the 15th of the month preceding the month in which the budget period ends. Fellowship progress reports are due two months before the beginning date of the next budget period.
