For the press:
NIH frequently receives inquiries about allegations of research misconduct. Allegations of research misconduct are handled by the Office of Research Integrity, which is the only entity that can find that an individual guilty of research misconduct on behalf of the government. Neither NIH nor ORI can confirm or deny allegations of research misconduct during an active investigation.
If an individual is found to have committed research misconduct, this information is made public through postings on the ORI Web Site, in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts, on the PHS Administrative Actions Bulletin Board, and in the Excluded Parties List System.
For more information on the handling of misconduct, please see ORI's Handling Misconduct page: http://www.ori.dhhs.gov/misconduct/.
