INFORMATIONAL MEETING FOR POTENTIAL APPLICANTS TO THE EARLY DETECTION RESEARCH NETWORK Release Date: February 19, 1999 P.T. National Cancer Institute The purpose of the Network is to establish a scientific consortium of investigators, academic as well as industrial, with resources for basic, translational, and clinical research. The consortium will have three main components -- Biomarkers Developmental Laboratories, Biomarkers Validation Laboratories and Clinical/Epidemiologic Centers. The Biomarkers Developmental Laboratories will have responsibility for the development and characterization of new or refinement of existing biomarkers; the Biomarkers Validation Laboratories will serve as a Network resource for clinical and laboratory validation of biomarkers, which include technological development and refinement; and the Clinical/Epidemiology Centers will conduct clinical and epidemiological research regarding the clinical application of biomarkers. Request for Applications (RFA) CA-98-028 is for the Biomarkers Developmental Laboratories component of the Network. A pre-application informational meeting for those investigators considering submitting applications in response to the RFA will be held on Friday, March 12, 1999 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Natcher Building, NIH, 45 Center Drive, Bethesda, MD in the Conference Room D. Representatives from the NCI Cancer Biomarkers Research Group, Grants Administration Branch, and Special Review, Referral and Resources Branch will be available to provide information and to answer questions relevant to applications responding to this RFA. Transcripts will be available upon request for investigators who are unable to attend.
