INITIATIVE ON GINKGO BILOBA Release Date: January 29, 1999 P.T. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), and several NIH Institutes are developing a Request for Applications (RFA) to initiate a high-quality, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled multi-site prevention trial of the botanical product, ginkgo biloba, in the older, ambulatory individual. The funding mechanism will be a cooperative agreement (U01). It is anticipated that one award will be made at a maximum total cost of $15 million spread over five years. The anticipated release date for the RFA is in mid-February 1999, with applications being due on May 21, 1999.
