NINDS ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPLEMENTS FOR RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE Release Date: December 2, 1998 P.T. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announces a program of up to $10 million in Fiscal Year 1999 to enhance infrastructure in support of research projects currently funded by the NINDS. Principal Investigators on projects that received NINDS funding in Fiscal Year 1998 (competing or non-competing) are invited to submit a one-page application describing their need for one-time expenses that would significantly enhance their ability to achieve the specific aims of the funded project while not expanding the project. Amount: Supplements will be made in increments of $25,000 total costs. For regular research grants (R01 and R29) the maximum is $50,000. For program project (P01) and research center grants (P50) the maximum is $100,000. Up to four principal investigators from the same institution may collectively apply for a major piece of equipment that would serve the aims of each of their projects, up to a combined total of $200,000. Allowable costs: This program is intended primarily to support equipment that could not be purchased because of prior budgetary constraints, but requests for other types of non-recurring infrastructure support that will enhance the ongoing NINDS-funded research will be considered. When applicable, proposed equipment must be Y2K (Year 2000) compliant. Excluded are salaries, training costs, alterations and renovation, travel, and recurring supplies. How to apply: Send to the address below, a one page letter (counter-signed by institutional official) describing the requested item(s), cost, why it is needed, and relation to specific aims. Attach a copy of the specific aims from the most recent grant application funded by the NINDS and an updated biosketch from the PHS Form 398 (up to two pages). This biosketch should be for the PI and/or Co-PI of the R01 or relevant subproject(s) for P01s and P50s. Submit two copies of the entire application package to: National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Division of Extramural Activities 7550 Wisconsin Avenue, Room 1016 Bethesda, MD 20892 Review and funding decisions: Applications will be reviewed administratively by NINDS program and grants management staff, who will make recommendations to the senior leadership of the Institute on the basis of excellence of the research, as reflected in progress toward the specific aims of the grant, and demonstrated need for the supplement. Receipt date: January 15, 1999.
