National Institutes of Health

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National
Institutes of Health, has a requirement to design, develop and evaluate
laboratory-based speech processor emulators and wearable speech processors for
auditory prostheses.  This is a competitive renewal of an ongoing project
consisting of two contracts that are currently being performed by Research
Triangle Institute, Contract No. N01-DC-5-2103 and Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Contract No. N01-DC-6-2100.  The research will include human studies.
It is anticipated that two(2) three-year term form, cost reimbursement contracts
will be awarded for a three year period. The solicitation is scheduled to be
issued on or about October 10, 1997.  Proposals will be due 60 days after the
date of issuance of the solicitation.  All responsible sources may submit a
proposal which will be considered by the Government.  THE SOLICITATION WILL BE
AVAILABLE ELECTRONICALLY ONLY.  It will be available on the following website:
http://silk.nih.gov/silk/ocm/rfp.html.  The solicitation will be available at this
website 15 or more calendar days after the issuance of this synopsis.  OFFERORS
