CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP ON ACADEMIC RESEARCH ENHANCEMENT AWARDPROGRAM NIH GUIDE, Volume 24, Number 3, January 27, 1995 P.T. 34 Keywords: Grants Administration/Policy+ National Institutes of Health This purpose of this notice is to announce a conference and workshop on the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which will be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sunday and Monday, April 9-10, 1995. The host and one of the sponsors of the conference is Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana; the other sponsors are the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the NIH. The conference and workshop is limited to 300 registrants. The purpose of the conference is to increase the awareness of the importance of the AREA program to eligible educational institutions, faculty, and students, thereby generating further support. The conference will include presentations by NIH staff and provide an opportunity to discuss how the AREA program can be modified and improved. Also, the program includes a session on application processing and peer review and one entitled "NIH Update." Recipients of AREA grants who are registered participants of the conference are encouraged to present a poster of the results of their AREA research project(s). In addition, a book of abstracts of completed AREA work is being compiled. Principal Investigators of AREA grants, including those who are unable to attend the conference, are urged to submit an abstract for inclusion in the abstract publication. The deadline for submitting abstracts is February 1, 1995. The registration fee for the conference and workshop is $184.00, which must be received by February 22, 1995. A block of rooms at the Ramada Plaza Hotel has been reserved for participants of the conference at $72.00 plus tax per night for single or double occupancy. Logistics, registration, and coordination for the conference are being handled through the Office of Academic Research and Sponsored Programs of Ball State University.
