Notice of the National Human Genome Research Institute’s Interest in Receiving Applications to Analyze and Develop Methods for X Chromosome Genome-wide Association (GWA) Data

Notice Number: NOT-HG-11-021

Key Dates

Release Date: June 1, 2011

Issued by

National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI)

Purpose

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is issuing this Notice to encourage individuals interested in submitting applications relevant to analysis and methods development for X chromosome genome-wide association (GWA) data.

GWA studies have identified over 1,200 associations with p < 5 x 10-8 for over 200 traits, yet only 7 such associations have been reported on the X chromosome. This is largely due to exclusion of X chromosome variants from analyses even though these regions are assayed on many current microarray platforms.

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) encourages applications relevant to broader utilization of genome-wide association (GWA) data in studies of human disease, especially those focused on the X chromosome. Areas of interest include: 1) facilitating more comprehensive analysis of existing GWA data, including currently under-utilized information such as X, Y, and mitochondrial variants as well as; 2) developing and validating new quality control and genotype calling procedures for these regions, as needed; and 3) developing and validating new statistical/bioinformatics methods, analytical strategies, and study designs, as needed, for incorporating information from these regions into GWA analyses.

Applicants may use the following NIH Parent Funding Opportunity Announcements to submit their applications:
