ORIENTATION MEETING FOR NCI INTEGRATIVE CANCER BIOLOGY PROGRAM RFA (CA-04-013) RELEASE DATE: December 9, 2003 NOTICE: NOT-CA-04-005 National Cancer Institute (NCI) (http://www.nci.nih.gov) The Division of Cancer Biology (DCB) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) announces a planning meeting to discuss the new Request for Application (RFA) entitled Integrative Cancer Biology Programs (ICBP) (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-CA-04-013.html). The purpose of the ICBP RFA is to develop a few comprehensive programs in integrative or systems cancer biology. The goal of this initiative is to promote the analysis of cancer as a complex biological system, with an ultimate goal of developing reliably predictive in silico or computational models of cancer initiation and progression and for the development of cancer interventions. The overall thrust of this program will be the integration of experimental and computational approaches towards the understanding of cancer biology. This initiative will encourage the emergence of integrative cancer biology as a distinct field. This workshop will be co-sponsored by the NCI Center for Bioinformatics (NCICB). Participation in a pre-application ICBP meeting will be open to all parties interested in applying to the RFA. The meeting will be an opportunity to clarify questions about the overall program and to discuss specific concerns about data standards, infrastructure and approaches to sharing of data and models as related to the ICBP and the communities. The workshop is planned as a one-day event to be held at a suitable location near NIH towards the end of January. The exact date and location of this workshop will be posted on the DCB website (site listed below). Although attendance at this meeting is not required for the successful submission of an RFA application, investigators considering submitting an application in response to the RFA are urged to participate. The pre-submission workshop proceedings will be posted on a public NCI web site. More complete information on this meeting can be found at: http://dcb.nci.nih.gov.
