Fogarty International Center (FIC)
This notice is to inform the research community that the Fogarty International Center (FIC) intends to issue notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) to solicit applications for its Global Brain and Nervous System Disorders Research Across the Lifespan (Global Brain) Program.
These NOFOs are intended to be reissuances of the now expired PAR-22-097 (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) and PAR-22-098 (R21 Clinical Trial Optional), along with companion funding opportunities that disallow clinical trials (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed and R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed). All participating NIH institutes, centers, and offices will be clearly identified and designated on the published NOFOs.
This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive applications. The NOFOs are anticipated to be published in Spring 2025 with an expected first application due date of November 15, 2025. Thus, the Global Brain program will continue without interruption, maintaining its annual application receipt dates.
Pertinent details of the planned NOFOs are provided below.
Research Initiative Details
For the purposes of this notice, low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are as defined by the World Bank - see http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-classifications/country-and-lending-groups.
The Global Brain program supports partnerships with LMIC scientists and institutions to conduct collaborative neuroscience research and research capacity building in LMICs. Research may span neurological, neuromuscular, sensory, neuropsychiatric, cognitive, neurodevelopmental, and behavioral function and disorders as well as the full range of science from basic to clinical to translational and implementation research. These collaborative research projects must focus on health-related issues relevant to LMICs and intentionally build upon existing neuroscience research capacity to support long-term sustainability of neuroscience research in LMICs. Eligible partnerships are between LMIC scientists with counterparts in the United States (U.S.) or another LMIC.
Further details will be outlined in the forthcoming NOFOs. Once the NOFOs are published, they will be accessible through the following link: https://www.fic.nih.gov/Funding/Pages/Fogarty-Funding-Opps.aspx.
