Fogarty International Center (FIC)
Background
The John E. Fogarty International Center (FIC) intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications to support the Fogarty International Clinical Research Training for Scholars and Fellows Program (FICRS-F). This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive applications. This FOA is expected to be published in early summer of 2011.
The Fogarty International Center (FIC) announces its intention to restructure the support provided for the FICRS-F by establishing up to four support centers for this program in the next project period (2012-2017). FICRS-F program provides one-year, mentored clinical research experience in low and middle-income countries (LMIC) sites for U.S. and LMIC health professionals. The current program is supported through a single award which is due to expire in June 2012.
The reasons for this restructuring are:
1. To provide more focused mentoring to trainees for their career advancement in global health
research;
2. To further advance global health research programs at diverse U.S. and LMIC institutions;
3. To increase the long-term sustainability of the program by leveraging existing NIH research training awards at applicant institutions.
The details of the restructuring will be described in a future Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for this program.
APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
