Office of Strategic Coordination (Common Fund)
Purpose
On April 2, 2013, the NIH issued the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) RFA-RM-13-003
"Undiagnosed Diseases Gene Function Research (R21)" to provide research funding support for smaller-scale or early-stage gene function studies associated with gene variants identified through the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN).
This Notice provides additional information regarding the above referenced FOA:
1. The list of UDN diseases of interest, associated phenotypes, and gene variants will be periodically updated, with both additions and occasionally subtractions. Applicants should regularly visit the NHGRI UDN website containing the UDN Gene Function Collaboration Candidate List to gain detailed information about the gene variants and associated clinical phenotypes of the diseases of interest to the UDP before submitting an application. While letters of intent are not required, if a letter of intent is submitted we will notify applicants if a gene is removed.
2. Contact information for the NIH Intramural Undiagnosed Diseases Program (NIH-UDP) Investigators is listed on the NHGRI UDN website. Applicants are encouraged to contact the UDP investigators to discuss scientific and technical issues prior to submission of an application. Applicants can inquire about the availability of patient bio-specimens and other available resources for gene function studies.
