Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to revise the wording of two passages in RFA-RM-11-009:

NOW READS: Part 2, Section I, Purpose. "The current FOA is a call for applications from new or established genomicists who propose to establish a collaboration between their independently funded H3Africa genomics/genetics project and an ongoing, funded project that does not currently have a genomics focus.

SHOULD READ: "The current FOA is a call for applications from new or established genomicists who propose to establish a genomics/genetics research project to collaborate with an ongoing, funded project that either does not currently have a genomics focus or where the augmentation or expansion of a current genomics/genetics component will enable the funded work to accomplish a larger, more complete genomics study than would otherwise be possible.

NOW READS: Part 2, Section I, Research Objectives. " The objective of this FOA is to solicit applications to establish independent H3Africa Research Projects that will collaborate with ongoing grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, or awards from the U.S. government (USG) (e.g. CDC, DOD, HRSA, NIH, USAID, and others) or non-USG funders (e.g., Wellcome Trust, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and others) to add a genomics-based approach to the study of a chronic or infectious disease to an on-going funded study that does not currently have a genetics component."

NOW READS: "The Office of Strategic Coordination (OSC), NHGRI, NIDA, NINDS, NICHD, and OAR reserve the right to withhold funding or curtail the study (or an individual award) in the event of (a) substantive changes in the agreed-upon work scope with which OSC, NHGRI, NIDA, NINDS, NICHD, and OAR cannot concur, (b) human subject ethical issues that may dictate a premature termination."

SHOULD READ: "The Office of Strategic Coordination (OSC), NHGRI, NIDA, NINDS, NICHD, and OAR reserve the right to withhold funding or curtail the study (or an individual award) in the event of (a) substantive changes in the agreed-upon work scope with which OSC, NHGRI, NIDA, NINDS, NICHD, and OAR cannot concur, (b) human subject ethical issues that may dictate a premature termination. The term of the H3Africa Research Grant award will be for five years, unless the funded grant with which it is collaborating is terminated prior to the end of the H3Africa Research Grant's funding period. In that case, the Office of Strategic Coordination (OSC), NHGRI, NIDA, NINDS, NICHD, and OAR reserve the right to consider the current status of the H3Africa Research grant, its progress and other factors that may be relevant in order to make a decision as to whether or not the H3Africa Research Grant will be terminated prior to its full term."
