As part of the Roadmap 1.5 Human Microbiome Project, The National Institutes of Health has published three Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs): Construction of a Reference Sequence Data Set for the Human Microbiome Project (U54) (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-RM-08-001.html), Human Microbiome Demonstration Projects (UH2/UH3) (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-RM-08-012.html) and Studies of the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) of Human Microbiome Research (R01) (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-RM-08-006.html). These FOAs address the goals of the HMP which are to create a technological and data research resource that will enable in-depth study of its variation in relation to any of a number of relevant variables (e.g., genotype, disease, age, nutrition, medication and environment) and its influence on health and disease. For more information about the program see http://nihroadmap.nih.gov/.
An Applicant Information Session for these FOAs will be held in Rockville Maryland on December 10, 2007 from 7 to 9 PM, EST. Prospective applicants may be interested in attending the meeting via teleconference. NIH staff will present an overview of the FOAs and answer questions from applicants.
