Cancellation: Planning Grants for Regional Translational Research Centers

Notice Number: NOT-RM-05-011

Key Dates
Release Date: May 2, 2005

Issued by
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), (http://www.nccam.nih.gov)

The purpose of this notice is to inform the research community that NIH is canceling RFA-RM-05-008, "Regional Translational Research Center Planning Grants," that was released in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts on October 1, 2004. Through discussions with deans of academic health centers and recommendations from the Institute of Medicine, the NIH recognizes that a broader re-engineering effort that incorporates and builds upon the strengths of the RTRC concept would create greater opportunity to catalyze the development of a new discipline of clinical and translational sciences. As a result, RTRC planning grant applications will not be reviewed.

The NIH will hold a meeting on May 23, 2005 at the DoubleTree Crystal City National Airport Hotel in Arlington, Virginia to discuss NIH's new direction to enhance the discipline of clinical and translational research and re-engineer the clinical research enterprise. For more information, please see NOT-RR-05-006.
