Notice Regarding PAR-06-484 Occupational Safety and Health Training Project Grants (T01, T02, T03, T15)

The purpose of this notice is to provide clarification on eight items in PAR-06-484:

  • Key Dates – The next application receipt dates are: August 25, 2008 for a start date of July 1, 2009 and August 24, 2009 for a start date of July 1, 2010.  In addition, the Peer Review Date(s) are revised to: February/March, 2009 and February/March 2010, respectively; and the Council Review Date(s) are revised to May/June 2009 and May/June 2010, respectively.
  • Section I. Funding Opportunity Description - 1. Program Objectives.  In the 1st paragraph, 3rd sentence, delete “graduate”.    
  • Section I. Funding Opportunity Description - 1. Program Objectives, Training Programs.  In the 1st paragraph, the 1st sentence is revised to read: “This program will support high quality bachelors, masters, and doctoral OS&H training programs.”  The 2nd and 3rd sentences are deleted.  The following new 2nd sentence is inserted: “This program will not support academic certificate programs”.  The following new 3rd sentence is inserted: “Grantees are expected to track all program graduates, including placement as well as progress in their careers.”          
  • Section II. Award Information - 2. Funds Available.  In the 1st paragraph, the following new 5th sentence is inserted: “Awards for undergraduate academic programs may have total costs up to a maximum of $50,000 per year for up to five years.”  Also in the 1st paragraph, in the 6th and7th sentences …“direct” costs… is revised to…”total” costs…  
  • Section IV. Application and Submission Information – 2. Content and Form of Application Submission, Table of Contents for a Training Project Grant Application, Training Program Plan.  The sentence is revised to read: “Occupational safety and health course content outlines and sample curricula/programs of instruction for each degree program must be included within an appendix.”
  • Section IV. Application and Submission Information – 6. Other Submission Requirements.  The second paragraph is replaced with the following to be consistent with NIH/NRSA policies: “Individuals may receive up to five years of support at the predoctoral level and three years of support at the postdoctoral level.  Any exception to the maximum period of support requires a waiver from NIOSH based on review of justification from the individual and the institution. Stipends are not allowed for undergraduate or part-time graduate trainees.”   
  • Section IV. Application and Submission Information – 6. Other Submission Requirements.  The following sentence is added as the new 4th paragraph of this section: “To help assure the stability of the TPG, the Program Director must be a full-time faculty member.”
  • Section IV. Application and Submission Information – 6. Other Submission Requirements, Trainee Related Expenses.  The 6th sentence is revised to read: “However, training related expenses cannot exceed 40% of the total program budget.”
