Purpose

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) encourages both investigators and administrators to join NIH staff for a webinar on the 2011 Revised Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) regulation (42 CFR Part 50 Subpart F, Responsibility of Applicants for Promoting  Objectivity in Research for Which PHS Funding is Sought).   This webinar, sponsored by the NIH Office of Extramural Research (OER), will focus on requirements as they relate to NIH-funded grants and cooperative agreements. The live broadcast will be November 30, 2011 from 2:00 – 3:30 PM Eastern Standard Time.

Background

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued the final rule that amends the Public Health Service (PHS) FCOI regulations.  The 2011 revised regulations were published on August 25, 2011.  An institution applying for or receiving NIH funding from a grant or cooperative agreement must be in compliance with all of the revised regulatory requirements no later than August 24, 2012.
The 2011 revised FCOI regulation modifies the requirements of the 1995 FCOI regulation in a number of important areas including Investigator disclosure and training requirements, institutional management of financial conflicts of interest, and public accessibility requirements. This webinar will clarify those changes and provide a summary of responsibilities of the grantee institution and its Investigators. There will be time allotted for questions from the audience.

Logistics

Prior to the webinar, participants may find it helpful to review the 2011 revised regulation, and the Summary of Major Changes located on the OER Financial Conflict of Interest website .

An archive of the event will be available within 3-5 business days following the webinar on the OER Financial Conflict of Interest website.
