Purpose

This Notice is to clarify the definition of basic science research and to state that a Data Sharing Plan is required for all potential applicants submitting applications to RFA-OD-11-003 Specialized Centers of Research (SCOR) on Sex Differences (P50).

The definition of basic science research for this FOA is clarified as follows:

Section I, Funding Opportunity Description 1. Research Objectives Description of a SCOR

Basic Research is defined as studies designed to increase our understanding of fundamental concepts or life processes and which lay the foundation for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention. This may include, for example, molecular and cellular studies, computational modeling, animal models, and bench experiments using human tissue, but not human subject research.

A Data Sharing Plan should be submitted as described below under the Resource Sharing Plan requirement of the FOA:

Individuals are required to comply with the instructions for the Resource Sharing Plans (Data Sharing Plan, Sharing Model Organisms, and Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS)) as provided in the SF424 (R&R) Application Guide, with the following modifications:

  • All applications, regardless of the amount of direct costs requested for any one year, should address a Data Sharing Plan

All other aspects of this FOA remain unchanged.
