Purpose

This Notice replaces PA-07-440, and provides program specific information for Extramural Pediatric Research Loan Repayment Program (LRP-PR). Applicants must refer to the general LRP Notice providing information on the application period, general eligibility, annual receipt and review schedule, application material, evaluation criteria, and program administration details: NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Programs (LRP), NOT-OD-08-083. Through this Notice, the NIH invites qualified health professionals to apply for participation in the LRP-PR.

LRP-PR PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The objective of the LRP-PR program is to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals as pediatric investigators.
NIH defines pediatric research as research that is directly related to diseases, disorders, and other conditions in children.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

In addition to the eligibility criteria outlined in the general Notice (see:NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Programs, NOT-OD-08-083), applicants for LRP-CR must have an M.D., Ph.D., Pharm. D., Psy.D., D.O., D.D.S., D.M.D., D.P.M., D.V.M., D.C., N.D., or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited institution, and must engage in qualified pediatric research as defined above.

FUNDS AVAILABLE

The NIH intends to commit approximately $17 million annually to fund LRP-PR contracts.

CITATIONS OF FEDERAL AUTHORITY

Awards are made pursuant to the Children’s Health Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-310), which added Section 487F of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act (42 U.S.C. 288-6). The Federal Debt Collection Procedures Act of 1990, contained in Public Law 101-647, requires that an individual who has a judgment lien against his/her property for a debt to the United States shall not be eligible to receive funds directly from the Federal government in any program, except funds to which the debtor is entitled as a beneficiary, until the judgment is paid in full or otherwise satisfied (28 USC 3201).
