On March 24, 2001, the Applied Research Ethics National Association
(ARENA), in conjunction with the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal
Welfare (OLAW) and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), will
present IACUC 101 (see http://www.primr.org/iacuc101.html). This one day
course is designed to educate those who are new IACUC members, administrators,
veterinarians, IACUC trainers, animal care staff, researchers, regulatory
personnel, and others who have responsibility within their institution"s
animal care program. The course will provide a basic yet comprehensive
overview of the laws, regulations, and policies that govern the humane care
and use of laboratory animals and will be supplemented with examples and
approaches for successful and effective administration.

On March 25, ARENA will hold its 2001 IACUC Meeting
(see http://www.primr.org/iacucrole.html), which will focus on practical
solutions for IACUCs as they maintain the balance between assuring animal
welfare and facilitating valuable research, testing and teaching. New this
year will be a Mentoring Program designed to provide IACUC novices with a
resource to help them understand their new responsibilities and to serve
as a "guide" during the meeting.

The 2001 IACUC Conference (see http://www.primr.org/advscience.html) of
Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R), cosponsored by OLAW,
AAALAC International, and UCSD, will be held March 26-27. This annual meeting
will explore innovative ways to manage the balancing act required of IACUCs,
attending veterinarians and veterinary staff, institutional administrators,
researchers, and those in policy-making positions.

https://www.regweb.com/reg.cfm?RegWebID=509&CFID=114843&CFTOKEN=45914922
