Purpose

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications that will support the development of a human cell resource and repository focused on derivation, standardized quality assessment, biobanking, data management and distribution of human iPSC and fibroblast lines identified as unique and high value resources for the neuroscience community and for the study of neurological disorders

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.

The FOA is expected to be published in the winter of 2015 with an expected application due date in spring 2015.

This FOA will utilize the U42 activity code. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages investigators with expertise and insights in the areas of human iPSC derivation from multiple human biospecimen sources including but not limited to fibroblasts and peripheral blood mononucleated cells (PBMCs), fibroblast derivation from skin biopsies, iPSC genomic modification/editing, and biobanking to begin to consider applying for this new FOA.

In addition, collaborative investigations combining expertise in iPSC derivation with data and patent/ licensing management around technologies related to iPSC derivation and genome editing will be encouraged and these investigators should also begin to consider applying for this application.

Among the areas of research encouraged in this initiative are stem cell biology, biobanking, data management, genome editing, quality assessment standards for iPSC and fibroblasts lines, and community outreach. Knowledge and application of new technologies for iPSC line generation, modification and quality assessment that contribute to best practice paradigms in this rapidly evolving field are encouraged.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
