NINDS GRANT SUPPORT MECHANISMS Release Date: September 5, 2000 NOTICE: NS-00-010 National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke PURPOSE The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is publishing this notice to notify the research community of the grant support mechanisms for which NINDS will accept “unsolicited” grant applications. Unsolicited applications are those that are not submitted in response to a specific request for application (RFA) or program announcement (PA). Unsolicited Grant Mechanisms: F31, F32, F33 K01, K02, K08, K22, K23, K24, K25 P01, P50 R01, R13, R15, R21, R41, R42, R43, R44 S11 T32 U01, U54 For a brief description of each activity code, access the NIH publication, “Activity Codes, Organization Codes, and Definitions Used in Extramural Programs”, at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/ac.pdf. All of the grant mechanisms listed above, except the R01, have NIH or NINDS- specific program guidelines. Interested applicants should refer to the NINDS web site at www.ninds.nih.gov for program guidelines or contact an NINDS program director in advance of preparing an application. A complete listing of program director contacts may be found at: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/find_people/ninds/organization.htm Applicants planning to submit a grant application requesting $500,000 or more in direct costs for any year are required to discuss their eligibility with a NINDS program director before submitting the application. Furthermore, the applicant must obtain agreement from the NINDS program director that the NINDS will accept the application for consideration of award. Finally, the applicant must identify, in a cover letter sent with the application, the program director who agreed to accept assignment of the application. This policy requires an applicant to obtain agreement for acceptance of both any such application and any subsequent amendment.
