APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR REVISED BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE TRACK AWARD FOR RAPID
TRANSITION (B/START) APPLICATIONS (ADDENDUM TO PAR-00-119)

Release Date: April 16, 2001

NOTICE: NOT-MH-01-004

National Institute of Mental Health

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) announces a clarification to
PAR-00-119 entitled Behavioral Science Track Award for Rapid Transition
(B/START). The announcement states that "if a B/START application is
unsuccessful in obtaining funding on the first submission, it may be revised
(amended) and resubmitted one time. Additional revision and resubmission of
a B/START application is not permitted." This notice is to specify that
effective immediately, all amended applications must address the comments of
the previous review in a 1-page response titled Introduction to Revised
Application. This page is placed at the beginning of the Research Plan of
the revised application and it should summarize the changes and respond to
criticisms of the prior review. Further, changes that have been made in the
text of the application should be clearly marked by appropriate bracketing,
indenting or changing of typography, unless the changes are so extensive as
to include most of the text.

The receipt date for these revised applications will be the same as new
applications (February 1, June 1, and October 1) since these applications
already undergo an expedited review process.

The B/STARTS are allowed one revision only.
