Purpose

The purpose of this notice is to offer clarification about the classification of pre-doctoral students for Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) RFA-MD-18-007, NIMHD Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training (MHRT) Program (T37).

The RFA states that at least 50% of trainees each year must be at the pre-doctoral and/or post-doctoral level. It further states that pre-doctoral trainees must be enrolled in a program leading to a PhD or in an equivalent research doctoral degree program.

For purposes of this RFA, regarding the 50% requirement, post-baccalaureate and master’s students are counted in the data tables with undergraduate students and are not considered pre-doctoral unless enrolled in a doctoral program a program leading to a PhD or equivalent research doctoral degree having completed the post-baccalaureate/master’s prerequisites at the time an initial or non-competing continuation award is made.
