Corrections and Amendments to RFA MD-06-002 "Establishing Comprehensive NCMHD Research Centers of Excellence (P60)."

On June 8, 2006, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a request for Applications entitled, RFA-MD-06-002, "Establishing Comprehensive NCMHD Research Centers of Excellence (P60)." This notice is to inform the scientific community that the NIH is correcting and amending RFA-MD-06-002, "Establishing Comprehensive NCMHD Research Centers of Excellence (P60)".

There are 5 corrections and 1 amendment.

1. In the RFA, the third bullet in Part I. Executive Summary reads: Depending on the number of meritorious applications, NCMHD estimates making 13 or more awards at direct costs of up to $950,000, each.

This is corrected to read from "each" to "per year": Depending on the number of meritorious applications, NCMHD estimates making 13 or more awards at direct costs of up to $950,000 per year.

2. In the RFA, the second bullet in Part II. Section II.2 Funds Available reads: NCMHD expects to fund 13 or more awards at up to $950,000 direct costs each.

This is corrected to read from "each" to "per year": NCMHD expects to fund 13 or more awards at up to $950,000 direct costs per year.

3. In the RFA, Section I.1, under the bulleted heading "Themes for Research, Research Training, and Community Engagement", there is a formatting error starting at the 8th bullet in the 14 bulleted list where, starting at the 8th bullet, it reads:

  • Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center Components (use the PHS 398 research grant forms, modify as needed).
  • Description of the Proposed Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center
  • Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center Administrative Core
  • Research Core
  • Research Training Core (optional)
  • Community Engagement Core (optional)
  • Description of the Proposed Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center (15-page maximum)

The correct format for this section is below (the first and last bullets start new sections):

  • Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center Components (use the PHS 398 research grant forms, modify as needed).
  • Description of the Proposed Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center
  • Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center Administrative Core
  • Research Core
  • Research Training Core (optional)
  • Community Engagement Core (optional)
  • Description of the Proposed Comprehensive NCMHD Research Center (15-page maximum)

4. The RFA, the first paragraph in the bulleted section "Research Core", Part II. Section I.1, reads: A comprehensive NCMHD center of excellence must have at least three full research projects - judged meritorious by peer review.

This is corrected to read: A comprehensive NCMHD center of excellence must have one-three full research projects - judged meritorious by peer review.

5. The RFA, the second paragraph in the bulleted section "Research Core", Part II. Section I.1, reads: Each full research project must address a significant problem in minority health or health disparities, and fall within or cut across two or more of the priority diseases or conditions.

This is corrected to read: Each full research project must address a significant problem in minority health or health disparities, and, preferably, fall within or cut across two or more of the priority diseases or conditions.

6. Amendment: In the RFA, to Part II. Section III. 3 Other-Special Eligibility Criteria, add after the last paragraph:

Applicants submitting competing continuations and are currently the sole institution on a P60 or P20 NCMHD Project EXPORT centers of excellence award are not required to submit the above requested documentation; they are deemed eligible by having previously received the NCMHD Project EXPORT award. Applicants submitting competing continuations that are part of a formal partnership currently funded under either the P60 or P20 NCMHD Project EXPORT program are not required to submit the above documentation if they are continuing the partnership(s) established at the time of funding under the NCMHD Project EXPORT Program. If the initial partnership is not being continued then the applicant must submit the above requested documentation.
