Notice Number: NOT-LM-11-001

Key Dates

Release Date: October 4, 2010

Issued by

National Library of Medicine (NLM)

Purpose

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) intends to publish a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit applications for institutional training programs for research careers in biomedical informatics. These informatics training programs meet a growing national need for investigators trained to bring computer and information sciences to bear on problems in domains such as health care, public health administration, basic biomedical research, clinical and translational research and other areas. The RFA will be open to both existing NLM training programs and new organizations that seek support for research training programs in biomedical informatics. Applicants may request funds for pre-doctoral trainees and/or post-doctoral trainees. Applicants may also request funds for short term training slots to enhance diversity.

The RFA is expected to be published in the winter of 2011 with an expected receipt date in the spring of 2011. This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. The forthcoming RFA will utilize the T15 activity code. NLM’s research training programs are not National Research Service Awards (NRSA), but stipends and other features are similar to those offered by NRSA training programs.

A competition for NLM's informatics training program awards is held every 5 years. The previous RFA for this program, issued in 2006, is available at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/ep/GrantTrainInstitute.html, along with current stipend levels and other information about NLM’s informatics training programs.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
