AGENCY FOR HEALTHCARE RESEARCH AND QUALITY (AHRQ)

Purpose

the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) intends to publish a funding opportunity to create State-based Healthcare Extension Cooperatives that can accelerate the implementation of actionable evidence into practice. The State-based Healthcare Extension Cooperatives aim to strengthen the capacity of healthcare systems, other healthcare organizations and clinicians to deliver evidence-based whole-person care.

Each Cooperative will convene a variety of public and private partners that are drivers of healthcare improvement in their State, including the State Medicaid agency, healthcare systems, other healthcare organizations, patients, and community representatives, among others, that will address barriers to delivering equitable, whole-person care. Addressing barriers may include: 1) alignment of incentives and payment, 2) coordination of public and private efforts to improve care delivery, 3) harnessing health information technology, or 4) strengthening healthcare workforce. Each Cooperative will provide services to support the dissemination and implementation of actionable evidence focused on critical areas for healthcare delivery improvement such as behavioral health. This funding opportunity increases nationwide capacity to support health systems transformation and rapidly disseminate actionable evidence into practice.

The NOFO is expected to be published in early 2024 with an expected application due date in mid-2024.

This opportunity builds on AHRQ’s prior Patient-Centered Outcome Research (PCOR) Trust Fund investments developing the evidence base for healthcare extension services and leverages AHRQ’s expertise in supporting healthcare transformation and learning health systems. For more information: Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) at AHRQ | Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and About the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Trust Fund | Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (ahrq.gov).

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive applications. For general information about AHRQ’s research policies, including grant application, review, and award process, see: Funding & Grants | Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (ahrq.gov).
