Purpose

The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) announces interest in applications for large, simple, randomized trials with clinical outcome endpoints focused on heart, lung, and blood-related emergency care in adults. The NHLBI is particularly interested in applications for multi-site clinical trials that feature clinical outcome endpoints, large sample sizes, and novel approaches to simplifying and streamlining trials. In addition, NHLBI is interested in trials focused on emergency care in the pre-hospital or emergency department settings.

Applications should be submitted according to instructions provided in the funding opportunity announcement PAR-13-128 "Investigator Initiated Multi-Site Clinical Trials (Collaborative R01)".

Proposed clinical trials may be implemented in a trans-NIH emergency care network entitled Strategies to Innovate EmeRgENcy Care Clinical Trials (SIREN), which will be composed of a Clinical Coordinating Center, Data Coordinating Center, and multiple Regional Clinical Centers (NOT-NS-15-022, NOT-NS-15-023, NOT-NS-15-021).
