The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) will participate in the Program Announcements for Research on Ethical Issues in Human Subjects Research, PA-06-368 (R21) and PA-06-369 (R01).

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute plans, conducts, and supports research, clinical investigations and trials, observational studies, and demonstration and education projects in diseases of the heart, blood vessels, lung, and blood; sleep disorders; and the clinical use of blood and blood resources, and transfusion medicine. The NHLBI seeks to fund research that addresses ethical issues related to the NHLBI’s mission. NHLBI encourages applications that relate to:

  • Repositories and use of stored specimens for genomic/genetic research in heart, lung, and blood diseases, sleep disorders, and transfusion medicine.
  • Emerging technologies with the potential for clinical applications, for example, cell-based therapies.
  • Ongoing NHLBI clinical or epidemiologic studies.
