Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child and Human Development (NICHD)
The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) invites applications that will address questions relevant to the NICHD mission and should align with the NICHD Strategic Plan. The NICHD has a long-term interest in place-based research to advance health equity in the United States. This Notice is meant to formally establish that place-based community engaged research to advance health equity is of high programmatic interest to the NICHD.
NICHD is interested in research that integrates geospatial data and/or spatial methodology with community-based approaches to examine how people, populations, and place interact to influence exposure to violence, health, and reduce health disparities in NICHD populations of interests.
The National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) within NICHD seeks applications on place-based community engaged research involving individuals with physical disabilities.
The following health and health-related outcomes are of interest to NICHD: Maternal and infant mortality and morbidity, adolescent and young adult mortality and morbidity; contraceptive use and non-use; reproductive health, gynecological health, and fertility; infectious disease; and, for NICHD populations of interest, access to health care and diagnosis and treatment of health problems.
Research that involves the following populations is of interest to NICHD: Infants, children, adolescents, and individuals in the transition from adolescence to adulthood; pregnant and lactating persons; individuals of reproductive age with regards to reproductive health; girls and women from pre-puberty through perimenopause with regards to research on gynecological and/or reproductive health; individuals of any age with intellectual and developmental delays and/or disabilities.
NICHD has a particular interest in place-based community engaged research in educational settings; the criminal justice system, including the juvenile justice system; facilities serving individuals with intellectual disabilities; and gynecological/reproductive health settings.
Applications to NICHD that address the mission and priorities of other institutes that are not participating in this NOFO will not be prioritized for funding by NICHD.
