Purpose

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) announces the orderly phase-out and termination of its participation in the NIH Method to Extend Research in Time (MERIT) Award (R37) Program, as part of its efforts to manage resources more effectively and fund a larger, more diverse group of investigators.

Effective immediately, no new nominations for NICHD MERIT awards will be made.

There are no changes for current NICHD MERIT awardees. All non-competing commitments for future year support made to current NICHD MERIT awardees will continue to be honored as indicated in the current Notice of Award. Additionally, MERIT extensions for active MERIT awards will continue to be considered according to NICHD policy.
