MALE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH RESEARCH CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM RELEASE DATE: December 11, 2003 NOTICE: NOT-HD-04-002 National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) (http://www.nichd.nih.gov/) The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is planning to publish a Request for Applications (RFA) for an institutional career development program (K12) focused on male reproductive health. The purpose of this notice is to alert potential applicants so that they may begin assembling their research and mentoring teams to prepare applications for this initiative. The objective of the planned RFA is to establish an institutional training program that focuses on male reproductive health. The goal is to increase the clinical research capacity among practitioners in the area of male reproductive biology and promote the translation of basic science advances to clinical practice. Successful applicants will accomplish this through a mentored program, bridging clinical training and research independence. NICHD anticipates funding up to four programs through this initiative. The requirements for each program will include a strong research base, an adequate number of available mentors for scholars, and evidence of sufficient institutional support for the program and the scholars. This program is modeled on similar programs sponsored by NICHD, including the Women's Reproductive Health Research Career Development Centers (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HD-03-020.html) and the Child Health Research Career Development Awards (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HD-01-019.html). Potential applicants are encouraged to review those RFAs for general guidance on the structure of a K12 program.
