SERVICES IN SUPPORT OF THE CONTRACEPTION AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH BRANCH, CENTER FOR POPULATION RESEARCH, NICHD Release Date: May 31, 2000 NOTICE: HD-00-007 SOURCES SOUGHT: NICHD-SS-00-003 National Institute of Child Health and Human Development The Contraception and Reproductive Health Branch, Center for Population Research, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, is seeking to identify organizations with experience and capabilities in steroid synthesis. Synthesis of one to three kg and 10 to 15 kg batch sizes of 7- methylestrone is desired, following the literature [Wieland, P. and Anner, G., Helv. Chim. Acta, 50, 289 - 296 (1967)], including patent procedures (U.S. Patent 3,318,929, May 9, 1967 to CIBA Corp.). It is anticipated that optimization is required for the best overall yield for the literature or patent procedures. The final product must have greater than 98 percent purity. A stereoselective total synthesis of racemic 7-methylestrone should not be considered for this purpose. Organizations should have in-house analytical capabilities for the determination of chemical and optical purity, including the presence of impurities as well as solvents. Organizations interested in performing such work should submit a summary of their capabilities and experience with similar projects, including personnel and equipment that could be assigned to the project. This notice is NOT a request for proposals (RFP). A determination to issue an RFP will be based, in part, on responses received to this notice. Future information on this topic may be found at the NICHD Contracts Management website: http://www.nichd.nih.gov/oam/cmb/cmb.htm. All organizations with the capabilities to meet this need should submit a brief (less than 10 pages) Capability Statement by COB, June 15, 2000. Three copies should be sent to: Mr. Charles W. Grewe Contracting Officer Contracts Management Branch, OAM, NICHD 6100 Executive Blvd., Suite 7A07, MSC 7510 Bethesda, Maryland 20892-7510 Telephone: (301) 496-4611 Fax: (301) 402-3676 E-Mail: nichdcmb@mail.nih.gov
