Purpose

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and the Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) in the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the National Science Foundation (NSF) plan to support fundamental research in mathematics and statistics necessary to answer questions in the biological and biomedical sciences. Both agencies recognize the need for promoting research at the interface between mathematical and life sciences. This program is designed to encourage new collaborations, as well as to support existing ones. NIGMS and DMS anticipate making 12 to 20 awards totaling up to $5 million per year. Applications should be submitted to NSF (Program solicitation 18-566).
