Notice of Intent to Participate in the Joint DMS/NIGMS Initiative to Support Research at the Interface of the Biological and Mathematical Sciences

Notice Number: NOT-GM-12-111

Key Dates
Release Date: June 22, 2012

Issued by
National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)

Purpose

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and the Division of Mathematical Sciences in the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (DMS) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) plan to support research in mathematics and statistics related to mathematical biology research.  Both agencies recognize the need for additional research at the boundary between the mathematical sciences and the life sciences.  This competition is designed to encourage new collaborations at this interface, as well as to support existing ones.  NIGMS and DMS anticipate making 15 to 20 awards totaling about $5 million, in fiscal year 2013.  It is expected that each award will be between $100,000 to $400,000 (total costs) per year for a duration of three to five years. Applications should be submitted to NSF (Program solicitation 12-561). Specific information concerning the application and review process is available at http://www.nsf.gov/publications/pub_summ.jsp?ods_key=nsf12561
