Purpose

The MORE Division of NIGMS will conduct a Technical Assistance Workshop for MARC-U*STAR program directors, potential program directors, and others who have an interest in and intend to submit a new, revised, or renewal application for MARC-U*STAR program. A new Funding Opportunity Announcement for the MARC-U*STAR program was released in the Spring of 2007 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-07-337.html) and thus the workshop’s purpose is to inform applicants of changes and to offer guidance about the new program prior to the next submission date of May 25, 2009. The workshop is scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2009 from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm in the Natcher Building (Bldg. 45), Conference Room E1/E2 on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD (http://www.nih.gov/).

Attendees are strongly encouraged to thoroughly review the new MARC-U*STAR program announcement before attending the Technical Assistance Workshop and bring in for discussion a statement of how the proposed MARC-U*STAR program will have an institutional impact of the number of students going on to biomedically relevant Ph.D. programs.

In order to participate in the workshop, teams of two individuals from each institution are required. These teams should consist of the proposed MARC program director and an institutional official at the level of dean or higher (e.g., dean, provost or VP of Academic Affairs, or president).

Arrangements for travel and subsistence are the responsibility of attendees. Funds from active NIH grants, including MARC, cannot be used to defray the cost of travel and subsistence.

Registration for this workshop is required by February 10, 2009, visit http://meetings.nigms.nih.gov/meetings/marctaworkshop/. Logistical information (e.g., directions to NIH, campus parking, local area hotels, etc.) is also indicated at this site.
