The purpose of this notice is to announce two clarifications to the NIGMS program, “Tools for Genetic and Genomic Studies in Emerging Model Organisms” http://grants2.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-04-135.html. Research resource grants (R24) supported by this program are non-renewable.  Therefore, effective June 1, 2006, applications for resources that require maintenance beyond the period of grant support must include a written plan for the long term maintenance and support of the proposed resource.  Second, NIGMS does not intend to use this program to support the development, maintenance, or annotation of databases. Applications that focus on these areas are not appropriate for this program announcement.
