National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB)
The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) is announcing its intent to issue a single source grant award to University of Massachusetts Medical School (the single recipient organization awarded under RFA-EB-18-004) to support the Blueprint-funded NeuroImaging Tools and Resources Collaboratory (NITRC) project, a dynamic inventory of web-based neuroimaging informatics resources: software, data, and tools. The purpose of NITRC is to promote the enhancement, sharing, adoption, and evolution of neuroinformatics tools and resources by providing access, information, and forums for interaction between the user community and associated developers. This award will support continued maintenance, development, and expansion of NITRC to ensure that the research community has continued easy access to the resources resulting from neuroimaging informatics research.
NITRC has been funded by the NIH since its inception in 2006. Throughout these 17 years, the collaboratory has been developed, maintained, and expanded by the same team of investigators, led out of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The team has established deep connections and built trust within the neuroimaging informatics community, which has been crucial in enabling NITRC to become a go-to repository for neuroimaging tools and resources. As such, it is prudent to keep the same team of investigators with the needed expertise in charge of NITRCs future, rather than risk the future of the resources success by transitioning to an outside group. Therefore, NIBIB intends to issue a single source award in order to ensure continuity of the resource while protecting NIHs long-term investment in NITRC. NIBIB will solicit an application from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, to continue developing and maintaining NITRC, which will undergo peer review for technical and scientific merit prior to award. The NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research intends to commit an estimated total of $700,000 in FY2024 to fund the award. The maximum project period of performance is 5 years.
